DEMENTOR: While working as an Auror, Keiran was captured by a Death Eater and tortured, not by the Cruciatus Curse, but by many uses of the curse Sectumsempra. He was eventually rescued by other Aurors, but the experience left him with many emotional and physical scars. He was an emotional wreck just after the incident, and found himself unfit to continue being an Auror, despite much praise from his colleagues as to his resistance under interrogation. He officially retired as an Auror, but kept in touch with many of his former partners. The incident has left him, to this day, slightly troubled.
PATRONUS: American Thoroughbred, visiting his maternal grandparents’ ranch in Texas with his mother when Keiran was a small boy. Keiran loved the horses and learned how to ride quite well. He still prefers the feeling of riding a horse to riding a broom.

OVERVIEW: Keiran Philip Ross was born in California. His father, a Scottish wizard who had attended Hogwarts, fled Europe during Voldemort’s first rise to power. In the states, he met a young muggle woman from Texas, and the two settled down, giving birth to an only son. Keiran grew up in the muggle world, but his parents never hid from him that he had magical abilities. Upon reaching the age of 11, Keiran’s father urged him to attend Hogwarts, and Keiran excitedly began his wizarding career.
He was swiftly sorted into Ravenclaw, which he loved. At the end of Keiran’s third year, the ministry announced that the Dark Lord, Voldemort, had returned. Keiran and his father aided muggle-born and half-blood wizarding families who were fleeing Europe at the time to settle into the United States. Keiran’s mother and father didn’t want him to return to Hogwarts, fearing for his life, but Keiran insisted. Keiran witnessed the Battle of Hogwarts and the defeat of Lord Voldemort at the hands of Harry Potter during his fifth year. Like many students, Keiran joined the main fray, but his affect on the battle was unremarkable. Emblazoned with the fervor to do more, Keiran focused on his studies for the next two years and graduated Hogwarts, becoming an Auror. During his Auror training, Keiran was taught Anamagi Transformation, the ministry believing it to be a useful skill at the time. For the next few years, Keiran worked alongside other more famous Aurors in hunting down and capturing remaining Death Eaters.
After an incident where he was tortured (see: Dementor), Keiran quit his job as an Auror and worked menial jobs in the wizarding world for a few years before being asked to fulfill the role of professor at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. The request shocked him, as he did not see himself as an ideal candidate due to his low self-confidence resulting from his torture. He did not feel that he had what it takes to teach the young wizards and witches of the future, but he accepted the job graciously upon further request, happy to return to Hogwarts.
