[/b][/color] Adair is very good at figuring things out, especially any sort of scientific or mathematical problems that need to be solved. He can figure these problems out relatively fast and finds them very easy and interesting to work out. He solves these sorts of problems as a hobby or on the side whenever he finds time for them out of class. This has been a favored hobby of his for years, it dates back to before he was even enrolled in Hogwarts.

dislikes:
strengths:
blunt / concise manner; Adair has a tendency to be very blunt and to the point when he speaks, all of his speech seems to be centered around this. His manner can be considered brutally honest because he always speaks what is on his mind and doesn't seem to bother much with twisting the truth despite the feelings of the other person concerned. He seems to hide very little aside from his own flaws in commonplace conversation. His blunt manner is commonly seen within the classroom where he doesn't hesitate to answer a question posed in so many words however crude his response appears to be.
thinking logically; Having been raised thinking logically Adair thrives on it. Every decision and thought that he has is nearly based off of this method because he decided long ago that rational was worth taking into consideration every time he made a decision. Adair believes that making educated and logical decisions the first time around will eliminate the mistakes that are normally made when all things are not taken into account. The elimination of this error will perhaps give him more time in the future having to deal with less mistakes -- this logic is what he bases everything on.
spotting patterns; Adair is very good at spotting patterns whether it be in problems, in picture form, or just in some sort of random sequence. He is the first person to step forward and recite the rest of the pattern or even that one exists in general. This talent sounds rather useless, but when he was working for the ministry it was useful in his department considering that they were dealing with foreign affairs -- and normally those do repeat themselves every so often.
assertiveness; Adair is assertive about certain things, mostly the things that he is very passionate about in this manner are randomly picked out. These are the things that he deems important however strange they are. His assertive nature does not extend far but it can be present at certain times.[/ul]
weaknesses:
paranoia; Another symptom of his schizophrenia is paranoia, it comes from dealing with years of years of hearing those voices and hallucinating things that are not really there. This paranoia has stayed with him through the bulk of his life because he has never really trusted the pills that he has been taking. He is scared that despite not hallucinating or hearing voices he still thinks that there might be someone after him or maybe he will start seeing things again. He still feels unsafe even though he has been taking the pills and no longer hallucinates he is still wary of those around him including his own surroundings.
depression; Another side effect of the schizophrenia is depression, which is rarely qwelled these days considering how Adair thinks that he lost so much time in his life fearing things that truly did not exist. Since he is still paranoid about the voices and the hallucinates he still does suffer from depression on a daily basis. He feels as if he has not much to live for, but does so regardless since the hallucinations and voices are now somewhat under control now. The depression stems also from the fact that he cannot establish a solid relationship with anyone and he does feel lonely on occasion.
relationships; Relationships have never been Adair's strong suit, he only had one girlfriend in all of his years at Hogwarts and they dated for less than a month. They only actually lasted for barely two weeks considering his strange actions and habits she decided that she could no longer deal with him. Aside from that he has had quite a few one night stands and things of the like so that he does not have to have the emotional attachment of a relationship -- since he is unable to do so. He has had a girlfriend or two over the years of his adult life, but nothing serious or lasting since many found him to strange to stick around. Normally he is wary when women attempt to speak with him or even flirt with him since he is not much in way of relationships. He no longer goes out of his way to try and form relationships as he once did when he was much younger.
schizophrenia; Perhaps his greatest downfall and biggest secret is the fact that Adair has schizophrenia. This is not a commonly known fact since he keeps himself well medicated these days, but during his younger years it was not so. He hates the disease and feels often times that it might define even though he struggles for his liberation from it. Even though the voices and the hallucinations are mild to nonexistent at the moment he still has trouble dealing with the fact that he is mentally ill. For a long time he was in denial about it and refused to accept it, although he has accepted it since then it is still hard for him to work around it. He is not one to go around telling people either, in fact the only person that knows at Hogwarts is the headmaster his employer.[/ul]
veritaserum: schizophrenia, he is on medication
dementor: His worst memory is by far the first time that he was checked into a muggle mental institution, he was uncertain of the outcome.
patronus: His patronus takes the form of a artic wolf, and his best memory is being accepted to teach at Hogwarts and finally feeling as if he belonged somewhere.
sexuality & relationship status: asexual / heterosexual

overall history:`cause I make little lies and then I pull them apart
think something dark's living down in my heart
Rational ruled the lives of Bryant and Alaina Burke, it had ever since they had wed on the that long day in October on the 29th -- mole day ironically. Their meeting and eventual procreation was just as logical as their wedding had been because as most others around them they knew that their main purpose on this Earth was to reproduce. Certainly it was first and foremost an act of "love," but that was just the superficial face of it truly the purpose of it all was to keep the family name alive and then of course to keep the population up in terms of humans and Earth's inhabitants. Despite all the statistics and the facts flying around about overpopulation the couple still found a need, almost a natural instinct to breed and have children. So that logical argument won over and the couple did what was necessary in a very loving manner at that to produce a child, their first child a boy born on August 19th during a very hot summer indeed. The boy was born into the rigid structure of the logical world that so ruled his parents' existence and he was given the name Adair Bryant Burke. From birth Adair was a very strange child, he never cried much and he was always off on his own even when there were crowds of other children around. As his older years approached rather quickly he was constantly talking to himself and his `invisible` friends, his parents thought nothing of this at first. His parents took less note of this after the birth of his younger brother Alymer L. Burke because another child now meant more responsibility. Adair, at six years Alymer's senior, took little interest now in his younger brother. Despite these actions his parents considered this nothing strange with the large age gap between the two they figured that this was commonplace since the two boys would not be able to relate much to the other.
The years passed steadily as Adair grew his father took great interest in teaching him certain things such as math problems and proofs. In spite of the boy's young age his father still attempted to pass on knowledge far beyond his age group, the boy took to it rather readily. It was not uncommon to see Adair slaving over notebook after notebook by the time he was eight he had acquired an uncanny knack and love for math. His parents never seized to be delighted in their son's talent for the subject and what seemed like all the other logical ones. Even with his acceleration in these areas, Adair seemed to be lacking in the area of verbal skills and even written ones as well since he could not find a good way to articulate himself half the time. This was partially blamed on his skills for math and science, in school the teachers dealt with him accordingly and he did improve but progress was slow at first. Seeing that he was doing poorly in those topics, Adair found himself focusing his effort evenly even though he was still accelerating in the areas of math and science. Even with the slight troubles he was having in those areas Adair was able to pull perfect grades every year he was in school, he always stood out against the mundane marks of the other children. His teachers gave him the highest praise when it came to his work, but his personality had always seemed to be lacking. His teachers and other students complained that he was always off on his own and normally could be found in the corner talking with himself. This was the one flaw that stood out vibrantly against the backdrop of his perfect marks, and his parents considered it miniscule when compared to his accomplishments.
By the time he had turned ten Adair was in the running for some of the top private schools for the gifted in the country. Those schools in question were all boarding schools, all of them prestigious. His parents were counting their options and weighting the school's prestige, they were looking to make the most of their son's promising future. It wasn't long before that letter arrived in the mail, the strange letter that Alaina and Bryant both had considered a joke. The bizarre letter spoke of some witchcraft jibberish, it had been written on what appeared to be coffee stained paper. They thought nothing of the letter and tossed it almost immediately, it was no more than seconds later that the doorbell rang after they had just finished discussing what rubbish had been written in the letter -- everyone knew that magic did not exist. Alaina answered the doorbell astounded at what she saw at the door standing there was a representative from the school of Hogwarts Witchcraft and Wizardry, whom had come to explain the school and how muggles and the wizarding world co-existed along with one another. Her jaw dropped and she hadn't the voice to call for her husband, the strangely dressed man had done it instead. Bryant shared much the same reaction as his wife, the two were invited into their sitting room as the children watched curiously from the corner of the hall. As soon as Bryant was close to accepting what was happening he begun to strongly voice his resistance in the matter certainly this was a scam! The strange man spoke against him and performed some magic for them first hand, after seeing that display they immediately called Adair into the room. The boy was questioned about any strange occurrences, he attempted to deny them all before the strange man gave him a stern look. He admitted to having a few oddities in his life [ he had merely concealed them ], and then the man worked onwards from there he explained the workings of Hogwarts and what would be necessary for the boy to attend school there. Again Bryant and Alaina protested saying that they did not have the currency for this, but again they were quieted when the man replied that Adair had already received a scholarship for the school. The school would be paid in full so they need not worry, but then Bryant protested again - what if they did not want their son attending this school when he had been accepted into so many other prestigious institutes. The strange man cut him off and told him that it was not his choice but Adair's, looking towards the boy he asked him the question whether or not he would attend Hogwarts at that moment all eyes in the room were fixed upon the boy. Adair's reply was almost instant, he said yes. Both of his parents stared blankly at him, puzzling looks upon their faces, in their opinion he was throwing everything away.
That year Adair did attend Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry despite his parents' protests and persuasive speeches against it. Adair had decided to attend the school under the impression that perhaps he would feel more accepted and more at home there. But instead things seemed only to get worse, the hallucinations and illusions followed him there. The sorting ceremony almost turned into a rather large scene when Adair nearly decided that he had imagined the sorting hat, until he saw the kids in front of him sit underneath it and appear to hear the voice of the hat as well. When it was his turn to sit under the sorting hat it didn't take long for the hat to decide where to place him, it came up with Ravenclaw the moment the hat touched his head. The hat need not take another moment and shouted out the house decision right away. Having been sorted now Adair felt that his journey to Hogwarts had somewhat begun, he had figured that this would be his house anyways after having heard the sorting hat's song. The magical world now offered a very confusing medium for the young boy who was already having a lot of trouble telling reality from the hallucinations that he was suffering from. The only way that he was able to make it through his younger years was because these hallucinations were not as prominent as they would become as he aged. His years at Hogwarts were definitely notable ones, Adair secured the top of his class for seven solid years and never seemed to falter in his studies. There were definitely strange occurrences though, he was alienated by most of his peers and housemates because even through his later teenage years he continued to talk to himself. He appeared delusional at times, but for some reason his work never seemed to suffer because the illusions were not that bad -- they allowed him to work. Most thought him driven crazy from studying so much, or perhaps many others just thought that he was on drugs. Socially many considered him an outcast he had few friends and even fewer admirers. Near his later years in Hogwarts, namely sixth and seventh years, Adair begun to act stranger than usual. It was not until graduation day did anything completely bizarre happen though, he continued to act very strangely until then. Those last two years at Hogwarts he was always slaving over a single notebook with a lot of complicated formulas both scientific and mathematical alike, as well as a combination of both magical and muggle. Many found him paranoid, he refused to leave his room aside from going to class and on occasion going to meals.
On the day of graduation Adair was acting strangely as usual, but after receiving his diploma he disappeared completely. No one would be able to find him [ including his parents and his brother ] until two months later. His disappearance struck a discord in both the magical and muggle community alike, most thought he was dead since both were searching for him. Two months later he would show up on his parents' doorstep unshaven and in torn clothes - not the same clothes that he had left in. He seemed to be under the impression that he was being chased by someone. His parents sat down with him and tried to make sense of the gibberish that he was talking, it didn't take long for them to come to one simple conclusion -- there was certainly something wrong with their son. In spite of their hesitance they decided to check him into a muggle mental institute for a work up and an a few days of observation. Adair did not take to this obviously he could not deal with the thought of having a mental illness, not when he was considered so brilliant. He denied it vehemently despite the protests of his parents and the doctors there. It was there that he was diagnosed with early onset schizophrenia, suddenly Adair's strange behavior was explained. It soon became clear that under a heavy dose of drugs all the hallucinations were repressed and they disappeared. Through the haze Adair could not think clearly, he became extremely depressed since he was unable to hold onto much of a thought at any given moment. He was released from the mental institution about a month later because he had needed the time at the insistence of his parents and the facility to get used to the drugs. He left with a heavy supply of drugs in hand and the reassurance that he would need to be taking them for the rest of his life.
For months Adair sat in his room at home, doing nothing, he was restless and was unable to think properly -- his thoughts were clipped and cluttered and he spoke to his parents and his brother very little. His clear downfall into depression seemed to bother his parents even more, but they tried to do very little other than encourage him to get a job out in the real world whether it be muggle or magical. Despite their encouragement Adair refuses to do anything other than sit around and try to work out complicated math problems for the next few months. His life remained stagnant until early that winter, it was December to be exact merely weeks before the holidays. Adair awoke one morning and decided that he would not be taking his pills, his parents were long through with monitoring him and he decided that morning that he would not go through with it. Hiding the pills in the corner of his room, it took a few more days before Adair begun to see the hallucinations again. He became more responsive though and his thinking was much clearer, it only took three pill-less days before he ran away again. His parents would only find out the next morning when they realized that he was missing, again he was reported missing, but it seemed nothing out of the ordinary now since he had been marked as mentally ill. This time Adair's disappear lasted for a little over a year before he made contact with his family again. Once he did though he appeared to have been on the streets again, he came home one warm night during the later summer months. Again his stories were elaborate and ironically the process was repeated -- but this time the hospital was called immediately upon his arrival. Having been dragged away for a second time to be medicated for the remainder of the year Adair was slowly figuring out that his parents were not on his side either. As an adult, but not mentally sound it was decided that his parents had to make the decisions for him. Again he was released into the custody of his parents, this time though Adair went missing that night of his release -- the pills went with him this time. He disappeared, but this time he disappeared into the magical world decidedly needing to do something to stay out of that hospital and away from his family.
Perhaps it was something of a miracle that Adair was able to find a job in the first place without any references and with no money in his pocket, with nothing to his name but those pills. Regardless he begun to work as a bartender in a very questionable bar somewhere within the depths of Knockturn Alley, the job paid poorly, but the young man did not seem to mind. Still struggling with that same drugged hazy feeling Adair nearly completely gave up trying to do any work for the next three years instead he resigned to working at the bar during the night and sleeping during the day. Having made little money he was out on the streets most of the time more often than he was actually sleeping inside with a roof over his head, but he made do. He was able to scratch up enough money to afford those damn pills and continue on with his life. It was during the end of those three years that he found himself suffering a rather bad bout of depression, it was then that he tried to kill himself. Of course he was unsuccessful considering that he was found before being able to succeed, his method for attempted suicide was none other than an overdose on those pills. He was discovered in a side street not long after he had passed out from them and was taken to St. Mungos. His stomach was pumped and he was accessed for reasons why he would have wanted to take his own life. Having examined his mental condition, the healers there were enraged that he had been taking that muggle medication. It was only now that Adair realized that he should have persuaded his parents to take him to the wizarding medical facility. The healers spoke of the evils of muggle medicine and how he had been stuck in that unrealistic haze for so long for no apparent reason because the medication that the wizarding world had to offer would be able to counteract those affects. In fact they were able to explain all of this to Adair after having given him said medication, and for once he saw clarity in the world without the hallucinations. He felt at ease for once and within the week he was released from St. Mungos and back on the street again -- but this time he could think clearly. It was as if he had been awakened from an extremely long sleep, and finally at the age of twenty five he was able to go out into the work force.
Having been `saved` by the wizarding world of medicine, Adair decided to continue attempting to work in the wizarding world shutting out the possibilities of working in the muggle world ever again - or even functioning in it. He no longer trusted them, and despite the clarity with which he saw the world now he felt very paranoid about the possibility of going back to living in the muggle world. The first place that he went to was the ministry to go and apply for a job considering his above average O.W.L.s scores and his impressive ranking in his class during his Hogwarts years they granted him employment. He begun to work in the department of international cooperation, traveling the world and picking up quite a few languages in the process. On the side Adair begun to work again solving equations and writing out more proofs as well as trying to perfect certain spells and charms. He found himself interested in seeking knowledge again and exercising the knowledge that he already had, suddenly life was no longer looking as grim. This went on for three years until he tired of world travel and decided against continuing his employment with the ministry. Upon terminating his employment he was offered a job to teach at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, almost immediately he accepted it. Adair practically jumped at the opportunity because it would present him with extra time to do research on other things. At the age of twenty eight he begun to teacher at Hogwarts and continues to do so currently. Four years ago he was invited to become the Head of House for Ravenclaw house and accepted as he had his teaching job years before. Recently he has been struggling with mild hallucinations and has been worried that the drugs have not been working.

role play sample:The evening was falling across the orange streaked sky now and people were less adamant to be walking through the corridors now since dusk was appearing before the sets of high windows. It was clear that the castle was more dangerous now, especially at night since one never knew who would be lurking about to go disappearing next. There was no danger for Dakota though, it wasn't like anyone lacked the common sense to try and attack him anyways. It would have been a stupid move considering that there was a whole army of death eaters ready to strike whenever they got the chance. Even the littlest things seemed to be getting on their nerves, like a stink bomb thrown into the back of the corridor or underneath a nearby staircase - it was all an agitation technique. Just a kid's way to get some death eater's nerves fried or rather just a way to provoke a reaction from those evil challengers. Of course Dakota was not untouched by this agitation as well because he did happen to have a very sensitive nose. That was one of the reasons why he had retreated onto the front steps of Hogwart's front entrance as evening fell today - because plainly the castle smelled. The portion of the staircase that he had been standing on had been high enough for him not to catch sight of the culprit, in reality he did not care much about it. It was not like the kid was trying to set the building on fire or anything besides there was nothing important in the main entrance hallway.
Considering this vital information Dakota had waved his wand and vanished said stink bomb without putting much effort into looking for the wrong-doer of the situation. Instead he found himself pacing only a little further then the main staircase in either direction before returning to his `post` and finding it to wretched smelling to stand there any longer. With his sensitive nose at stake here he opted on the third option, which was something that might have held greater gravity to it if he had actually been standing in a more important area. Currently there was not much to do here in the entrance hall except stand there and wait since many had already headed up to their common rooms for the night the corridors looked empty around him. Without hesitating a moment longer Dakota started to walk across the entrance hall towards the large double oaken doors that led out to the front of Hogwart's castle. It didn't take him long to reach the doors since he was taking long strides considering that the smell appeared to be following rather closely at his heels. Dakota scrunched his nose up attempting to block the odor without much avail. He was soon in front of the double doors and gave them a single firm push before he found himself outside on the large stone stoop. The doors closed creakily behind him, yet he gave them not a second's worth of attention for he was to busy breathing in the fresh air that he had just found. Taking a relatively deep breath Dakota stood there watching the snow fall in front of a backdrop of orange streaked sky. The sight was beautiful to say the least yet he found it falling greatly short of that. Nothing had really been beautiful in this world since that night.
The near other worldly view should have been enough to distract him from the fact that he was standing outside observing this evening with barely enough layers to possibly shield him from the cold. Since the castle was relatively warm he had shed the majority of his layers in the teacher's lounge before going out to take up his useless `post` on the main staircase. The only thing that he had thought to leave on was his black hooded cloak that was easily threadbare from multiple usages and the muggle street clothes that he was wearing underneath. Despite the chill of the evening Dakota barely seemed to notice even though it was potentially shiver-worthy if he decided to stand here for a little while. The castle had been painstakingly warm now that he had stepped outside, it seemed almost suffocatingly so. Leaning up against the frosty stone blocks that composed the entrance Dakota cross his arms in thought as he stared out over the grounds. They were expecting someone to attack? Things seemed so peaceful it was really hard to tell anymore who would be out to get them. It seemed like all their supposed `enemies` had been taken down long ago or were in hiding. There was no threat out there, or was there? Dakota could no longer decide that anymore, the way that he saw it he had joined the single side that had appeared threatening in any way. Everyone had their own version of what they feared the most, of what they considered the biggest threat, and the death eaters just happened to be Dakota's definition of a threat. Yet he was not scared of them, he did not fear them in a way that seemed even at all rational like the majority of the population, instead he found himself afraid of what they might have been capable of.
Having been pressured to join in the first place had potentially only added to that fear that he had of their capabilities. If they could find enough people like him, without anything to lose, without any cause to go on living for, then would they truly win? Their numbers were enormous for all he knew. Admittedably he probably did not pay half as much attention as he really should have considering that he was as much apart of this war as was every single child in this establishment now as well as every other adult witch and wizard out there. But no one was willing and ready to take the blame for this one or even the responsibility of what was happening. It was truly a strange world that they lived in.
