strengths:
- Thinks outside the box – She was a former Ravenclaw. Smart is something she always takes as a compliment but her time in Hogwarts taught her not to be conventional. Z likes to take a situation and sit with it for a while thinking of different ways to solve it. Her unconventional ways have caused some raised eyebrows in the ministry.
- Generous – She is willing to help anyone and give anyone at least one chance. Not so much trusting as much as believing that not everyone in life is as lucky as she has been and so it’s the least she can do to be a little generous.
- Good listener – Her sole role through school apart from being a student was being a counsellor. Z listens intently to anyone that wants to talk to her. When she was younger she found it irritating but with age she has realised that it is a good trait.
weaknesses:
- Stubborn – If she has an idea she sticks to it. If she has an opinion she sticks to it. Stubborn as a mule and with absolutely no shame about it.
- Hard working – Usually it’s seen as a positive thing. Not when you allow it to take over your whole life. Z uses work as an excuse to hide things that aren’t there in her life.
- Afraid of emotional expression – This is a massive no for Zara. Tears, tantrums and even happiness to an extent is something she just doesn’t allow herself to do. Not around people and rarely alone. She has a habit of burying things as deep as she can.
veritaserum:
- She’s glad her parents are dead, neither of them were fit for parenthood
- Sometimes she wonders if picking the death eaters would bring her close to Jason again
dementor:
- Death is a massive fear for Zara. She witnessed Del turn his wand on Raja and then himself. It is something she struggles to get out of her head.
patronus:
- Her patronus takes the form of a polar bear. Z’s favourite memory was probably the summer her family spent together in Italy. It was the summer after her first year at Hogwarts and one of the only times she can remember her family behaving as one.

overall history:
Del O’Riley was a young Irishman who had just left Hogwarts when he met an Indian girl by the name of Raja Kapoor. A romance blossomed and within a few years the couple had married and had their first child, a son, by the name of Jason.
Zara Celeste O’Riley was the second child of the O’Riley household. Only three years after Jason but the cracks in the family were beginning to show. Their father was now more frequently at the pub much to their mother’s dismay. Growing up Z witnessed a lot of fights and angry exchanges between her parents. This pushed her and her brother to be close. Zara and Jason were not only brother and sister but became best friends as well.
That was why it was difficult for Z when Jason got accepted to Hogwarts. The night he left she cried her eyes out. Her best friend had gone. And he had looked so happy about it. Jason owled when he could but they became less frequent over the years. It was in those three years that they were separated a lot that Z began to see things that she couldn’t explain. Clear visions of things that would later happen. Although she wanted to talk to her parents about it the ever increasing arguments stopped her from discussing it with them and Jason always seemed to busy, opting to spend summer holidays with friends.
After being accepted to Hogwarts and then being sorted into Ravenclaw Zara spoke to her head of house about what was happening with the things she saw. A seer. Something Z began to read up on and then began to detest as at times her visions would come along without her wanting them there. It was something that was difficult to grow accustomed to and yet no way to get rid of it.
The summer after her first year was the summer they found out her Dad had schizophrenia. It was also the summer that the fighting had stopped. The unknown cause now known seemed to have put a mutual understanding and love back between her parents. They spent most of the summer in Italy where they spent days looking at sights and talking to the wizarding community there. By the end of the summer Italy felt like a second home to Zara.
Her time at Hogwarts saw her become a counsellor to most of her friends. She hated arguments and so often mediated between warring friends and couples. Her time at Hogwarts also saw herself and Jason become a little closer again even if it was just for Jason to warn off boys and glare at boyfriends. It was something and Zara was grateful for it.
The summer after her fifth year was the year everything changed. Her Dad’s illness worse than it had been before. The arguments now seemed more violent and frequent. One evening when Zara had been trying to go to sleep she heard an argument and being fed up she went down to tell her parents that this was ridiculous. The flash of green she saw made her run towards the kitchen and throw open the door to see her Dad turn his wand on himself and another flash of green. Long hours of questioning by the ministry and a double funeral and Zara had changed. More quiet now. More reserved with her emotions.
After finishing at Hogwarts Z began to train in the ministry with the department of mysteries. By this time the relationship with her brother had completely deteriorated and all she knew of him was in the whispers in pubs. She began to work harder not really wanting to deal with people and working her way up the ladder. Ten years on from that she is now taking the top position in the ministry and it would be a lie to say that she isn’t somewhat nervous.

role play sample:Zara lay in bed blinking at the ceiling. It still didn’t feel real to her. Minister of magic. The position right now was something everyone seemed not to be fussed on taking up. The wizarding world seemed to be becoming more unstable and it couldn’t just be brushed under the carpet. She had heard the whispers and the rumours. There was a pool going around about how long she would last. But Z was determined to show people that she could cope anything that was going on.
Getting up and out of bed she stepped into the shower and then got dressed. Spending a few moments in front of the mirror to just fix a few strands that were fly away she sniffed in approval and went to the fireplace flooing into the ministry.
Almost immediately she had three wizards surrounding her, one of them being her under secretary, who was taking messages from the other two who had them cleared off. Zara looked to her under secretary ready for whatever he was about to tell her.
’There are leaks in the department of muggle artefacts again, the department of mysteries are going to be temporarily moving across the hall as they are reorganising things, you have an interview with the daily prophet at 12.’ Zara nodded at everything as they walked towards her office. ’I’ll go and see muggle artefacts now. I want the hall out of bounds while they reorganise things and thank you for sorting out the Daily Prophet. It’s much appreciated.’
Her under secretary gave her a smile and nod before going off to do other things. First day on the job. Just fantastic.
