ROLEPLAY SAMPLE:
That same memory had flooded his mind, about the same time as it had flooded hers. But instead of reliving it in all of it's glory, he was second guessing the entire event. What if he had stayed sober that night? Sure, it was a long shot, since he never went to these parties sober, but it was just a thought. Would he have even spoken to Hazel? He knew the answer, and ti was terribly obvious, no. He wouldn't have. He would have stared at her the entire night from the other side of the room and drooled over her good looks. Stephen had never regretted his actions from that night until right now. Being that drunk, and accidentally checking her into the ground, then having her take care of him after? She didn't have to do that. She..she shouldn't have had to do that. Stephen felt a pang in his heart. It wasn't the same sort of pang he felt when he was around someone like Dominique, where he felt as though his heart was skipping a beat because he was excited. This was...different. This was the feeling that a heart makes when it breaks. Maybe he had never thought about it long enough to realize that he took advantage of her friendship. In truth, he probably didn't, but it sure felt that way. It would have been better if he hadn't run into her that night. It would have been better if they had never spoken. She never would have considered him to be her responsibility. Maybe she was right. Maybe they shouldn't be friends... But he wouldn't let that thought be true. He wouldn't admit she was right. There was no way that she was telling the truth about this.
“You’re supposed to think that I’m a cold hearted bitch who used you for a friendship..." The words caught Stephen completely off guard. As she went on, "There’s nothing you or I can do. It’s easier to make this cold turkey..." Maybe it wasn't so much her words that took him back, but it was that they were...different. Maybe it was a hint of her giving in. But from her words, it sounded like she didn't want to to end. Maybe it was the hope he needed. Jsut as the hope hit his eyes, it was immediately taken away again. Hazel hit him where it hurt the most. She said the words that would cause him to be crippled with guilt from now until probably the day he died. Stephen held onto everything. He remembered every thing that resembled moments like this. All the fights, and being told that he's not good enough. She wanted him to disappear, but it wasn't that easy. They would see each other all the time. Unless they found ways to totally avoid each other in the hallways and common room, it wasn't going to work. Not to mention, Stephen isn't going to go around avoiding her. He couldn't if he wanted to. "I'm sorry..." He muttered. His voice was as low as possible, but as audible as he could so she heard. "Hazel, I'm sorry. I know this hasn't ever been fair to you. I...I shouldn't have expected anything from you. You shouldn't have had to take care of me. You should have had to listen to my problems. You...you...you can tell me off. Just say something, anything, and I'll do it. Except leave you alone. I can't leave you alone.... Hazel, I'm going to fall apart without you. Don't you see me right now? Hazel, I'll get down on my knees and beg you, plead with you. Don't do this. I'll be a better friend. I have always been there for you, and I always will be." As he spoke, the weight of his body got heavier, causing his knees to give out. They couldn't support him anymore. He fell to his knees, looking at the ground. "Can you please...just....forgive me?"
Maybe it was the moment, but he had completely forgotten about the things he had done for her. More, he remembered them, but they seemed so useless at this moment. He closed his eyes, feeling that lump in his throat growing and growing. Her words hit him again, like a knife in his back. Would he really forget about her? Was it really in his nature to forget someone who means so much to him? He wouldn't. Dammit, he couldn't! "I could never forget you, Hazel. I don't think I could if I wanted to. You aren't just my best friend now, you're the best friend I've ever had." There was something about how she phrased that though, that made him wonder. She was referring to humans as though she wasn't one of them. He was sure she wasn't doing that on purpose, but what did he know? How she spoke about his family made it feel like that knife in his back was being turned, slowly. "You can't do that!" He shouted, looking up at her angry again. "Ariel looks up to you. She loves you! How can you abandon her? How can you sit here and walk away from a fourteen year old girl that loves you? As for my dad, you're one of his favorite students. He wouldn't think anything of it, but he's still going to treat you with respect. He'll still want to talk to you! You're basically part of my family! How can you walk away from that?!" Maybe it was a last ditch effort, but it was true. He didn't want her to leave him, but in a way, he would give himself up for his family. "I wouldn’t have to tell you the biggest lie I’ll have to tell everyone else. I could spare you that lie by doing this." The words caught him off guard. "You can tell me anything. I don't give a shit how horrible the truth is, I'd much rather you tell me the true than a lie! DON'T lie to me. What in the hell is going on?!" Great, he was mad again. This emotional rollercoaster was taking his toll on the boy. He was glad he was still on the ground, because if he had been standing, his actions might have been more grand. Stephen probably would have reached for her again and forced the truth out of her, though that idea was still there.
